Matt Belzile – “On December 8th we went on an overnight excursion to Cerise Creek by Pemberton, BC. We had roughly 5 km of skinning to our camp site. The snow was decent but we were able to find really good pockets on north and east facing slopes. The panoramic was great. I was really impressed at how well it rode, it did not feel like a split board even on firm snow it felt solid.”

Last year Norwegian snowboarder Torstein Horgmo uncorked the first-ever triple backflip spinning trick to earn gold in Winter X’s Big Air. This year, Horgmo again unleashed the sketchy triple cork — backside even, with 1440 degrees of spin — and scored a perfect 50 points. Oh we love the X-Games.

ESPN’s Action Sports gives us the top ten reasons to rock the mountain during the holiday.

1. Resorts are empty on Dec. 25
Sure, there are crowds at ski resorts during the holidays. But Christmas day? Totally empty. While everyone’s busy unwrapping gifts and eating fruit cake, you’ll have the mountain to yourself.

2. Backcountry is always empty
And when it does get crowded (from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31), sign up for a guided backcountry tour (many resorts and local outfitters offer this type of thing) or a day of cat-skiing, like at Crested Butte, Colorado.

3. There’s powder somewhere
It’s been a slow start to winter at a lot of resorts, but some ski areas have received over 100 inches of snowfall already, including Colorado’s Wolf Creek, Washington’s Crystal Mountain, and Alaska’s Alyeska.

4. Dress like Santa, ski for free
On Dec. 17, the first 75 people who show up at Whistler’s Garibaldi Lift Company in full Santa attire get a free lift ticket. Utah’s Canyons, Vermont’s Bolton Valley and Maine’s Sunday River offer similar Santa skis free days.

5. And other non-Santa discounts
Mt. Bachelor, Ore., is offering a $99 three-day lift ticket — which can be used during the holidays, which are usually blackout days for discount tickets. The fine print is you have to buy the ticket by Dec. 12.

6. Travel is easier than you think
If your excuse for not going skiing during the holidays is “It’s too hard to get there,” then hear this: Nonstop flights arrive in Jackson, Wyo., daily from six major cities, including L.A., Chicago, and Atlanta.

7. Après-ski New Year’s Eve parties
New Year’s Eve parties are always more fun in ski towns. Check out the party at the Wobbly Barn at Killington, Vt., the torchlight parade and fireworks at Steamboat, Colo., or anywhere in South Lake Tahoe.

8. And loads of other events
Sunday River, Maine, might have the most stacked holiday event schedule we’ve ever seen: rail jams, concerts, comedians and fire dancers, pub quizzes, fireworks and more. And even a ski-for-free lodging deal during the holidays.

9. Some resorts have just opened
If you’re worried that you’ve missed all the freshness from opening day, fear not. Some resorts are just getting started: Montana’s Moonlight Basin, California’s Alpine Meadows, and Nevada’s Mount Rose have just opened for the season this week.

10. Post-shredding shopping
Holiday shopping? Yep, resort towns can definitely handle that, too. Assuming you’re OK with gifting antler chandeliers and fur-lined coats. Best shopping: Park City, Utah, Aspen, Colo., Stowe, Vt.

Lindsey Vonn took home her 5th World Cup of the season on her adopted home soil in Beaver Creek. This amazing win was the 4th in a row that she has taken home; a new US record. Vonn’s World Cup win at the Super-G in Colorado is number 46 in her career, tying her with Austria’s Renate Goetschl for third on the career list.

Lindsey even joined in the “Tebowing” craze in respect for Denver Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow, as she dropped down on a knee and struck a prayer pose after the race.

Despite personal drama (a recent divorce from Thomas Vonn), Lindsey Vonn is determined to take on the mountain, and we are quite certain she is doing just that.
